Jonathan Cabrera, still recovering from the bullet wounds he received last
May 14 when Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) officers opened fire into
the apartment he shared with his wife, went on trial Thursday (Jan. 26) on
a felony charge of obstructing or resisting a law enforcement officer.
“The only reason for this felony charge is the City of Long Beach wants
Jonathan Cabrera to come to court for his civil case wearing a prison
jumpsuit,” claims
It's a tragedy-and-comedy edition of Greater Long Beach Radio with Dave
Wielenga.
Jim Fleckenstein, the police officer-turned-private investigator who is
scrutinizing several high-profile cases in the recent spate of police
shootings in Southern California, presents the significance of what he's
discovered about the barrage of Long Beach Police Department gunfire that
wounded Jonathan Cabrera while he was in his apartment with his wife,
Elizabeth Bustamante, last May 14. Bustamante is also in studio. Cabrera
stayed home, preparing for a court date tomorrow on a felony charge of
obstructing an officer.
In the second half hour, two stand-up comics---one Briton, one Pedron ...
that is, the dude's from San Pedro---talk about their mission to make the
people of Long Beach laugh at least once a month. This Saturday David
Conolly (the Brit)and Brian Zuanich (the Pede) will inaugurate The Long
Beach Port of Comedy on Saturday night, the first of what they hope will
be monthly comedy nights at Club Cohiba downtown.

Helen Borgers, who has been having one hell of a time since she moved to Long Beach as a child in 1958, talks with laughing exuberance and quite-seriousness about a life filled with the two things she loves most---jazz and Shakespeare---in an hour of conversation with Dave Wielenga and Jeanine Birong. Specifically, it’s the hour between the end of her drivetime radio show on 88.1/KKJZ-FM and the rise of the curtain for the production of A Christmas Carol that she is directing for the Long Beach Shakespeare Company.
